To celebrate the launch of its new Stir Your Senses range, Birds Eye has released a new campaign ad featuring comedian and impressionist Rory Bremner. The satirical impressionist makes the world’s most stirring speech in the ad for Bird’s Eye ready meals.
The ad’s dialogue takes cues from famous political speeches, of Prime Ministers past and present, including Tony Blair and Sir Winston Churchill, as well as 35th President of the United States, John F. Kennedy.
The Scottish impressionist combines the voices of Ed Miliband, David Cameron, Nick Clegg and Nigel Farage in the advertisement for Birds Eye’s new range of adult ready meals – called Stir Your Senses. But he doesn’t stop at the current party leaders – Paddy Ashdown, Sir John Major and a bumbling Boris Johnson also make an appearance.
As Rory Bremner stirs a portion of stir fry and the music approaches a climax, he slips into the voice of Sir Winston Churchill, saying: “Let us therefore brace ourselves to our plates. And if the British supper and its condiments should last a thousand years, men will still say ‘this was our finest meal'”.
Birds Eye UK Marketing Director Steve Chantry commented: “Since this Election is a ‘time for change’ we wanted to create a stir – so what better way than to reframe some of the most compelling political speeches of all time to rouse the nation to discover stir cooking and revolutionise their dinner.”
He rounds off the hilarious clip by mimicking Harold Macmillan, telling viewers: “You’ve never had it so good.”
Of the speech created for Birds Eye, Rory added: “We’ve not had many stirring speeches in this election but we have seen a lot of politicians in kitchens. This campaign plays off both by linking the speeches that stirred the nation’s senses with the mouths of our current leaders. Go back to your constituencies and prepare for supper!”
